Week 3 : Skill-building Websites for Oral/Aural Skills and Saving Bookmarks with Delicious

Hello everybody,

We have done a lot of readings and searching since the very start of Week 3. I believe that my Yellow Group colleagues have enjoyed learning the course as I do. While some early bird colleagues have finished the tasks, I was still hesitated about where to start with!

For Task 1 :  I decided to read the two articles written by Lindsay Miller on “Developing Listening Skills with Authentic Materials and the other one was “The Employment of CALL in Teaching Second/Foreign Language Speaking Skills” which were prepared on the course website. In addition to these, I looked through to the websites listed for some of the lesson plans and read “Movies,Films, and Actors” by Kenneth Beare on http://esl.about.com/od/conversationlessonplans/a/l_film.htm
And “Dramatic Dialogues” by Lindsay Clandfield on http://www.onestopenglish.com/skills/speaking/lesson-plans/pdf-content/speaking-skills-lesson-plans-dramatic-dialogues-worksheet/teachers-notes/149698.article After reading, I posted on the Nicenet. I do agree with Donna mentioned that technology can be used by the teacher in preparing as well as used with students in the class.

Task 2 :  Reading a sample of final project report as we will be creating a similar report individually by the end of the course which due on Week 9 of our course. I read the lesson plan of Camelia Pagila from Academician Marin Voiculescu, Romania,  on

Task 3 : Using Delicious.com to store useful links. This is a very wonderful website where one can join setting his/her own delicious and store his/her favorite links.

Doing all the activities above have made me agree with Morgante Pellon who posted the article about “Top 5 Qualities of Good Teachers” on http://myfla.ws/blog/2008/05/24/top-5-qualities-of-good-teachers/ - about what make great teachers; Passion, Creativity, Flexibility, Integrate, and Connect. I think those qualities have been with the Yellow group members  already and we are on the way keeping shaping them better and better with the support of the    the U.S. Department of State (DOS), and the Interactive Web” (Web Skills) course with the American English Institute in the Linguistics Department at the University of Oregon (UO AEI).-How can we thanks them enough!

Holding the English Camp for 100 students from schools around the area.

My last activities for Week 3 were changing my Duck ID password and posting my picture to Photo of us page.

    Hi Yaowapa,

You seem very busy with all those students around you. I also think the course is very flexible and I always learn new online techniques so I would also like thank University of Oregon for giving us this great learning experience.

If you haven't received an email to become a member of E-teacher, social network. I recommend you to chek it out. There are lot of projects for teachers online at www.eteacher.ning.com.

  4. Dear Yaowapa,

I really love your blog. It's so colorful!

As for the tasks, then trust me I am struggling too trying to complete the assignments on time. I work in the morning as a teacher and head of department, in the evening I'm a translator and co-researcher and I have cooking, cleaning, and dusting to do! Then I have to go to the gym and socialize and .. and ..and.. So yeah! I understand how you feel.

I went through Pellon's article on the qualities of a good teacher and I wholeheartedly agree on the "passion" point. I had a couple of teachers who did not want to become teachers. They were forced to choose teaching (due to their low GPA or family wish) or they did because the salary is very high. The good thing is, after holding meetings with them I explained that passion is very important and that teaching is not an administrative job that can be done from behind your desk. You have to work hard and you have to update your knowledge and methods. I couldn't tolerate their negligence and poor performance so after serious talks with them they decided to switch to other jobs that suit their needs and preferences. If you do not love teaching you can never do the job as should be.

  5. Hello Wadha,

Thank you a lot for visiting my blog. Perhaps we have to extend your compliments to the Webskills team especially to Donna!

Reading your comment made me smile. Why? Because you sounded like a professional teacher who has enjoyed teaching although you have many interesting activities to do in daily life. I understand that being the head of the English Department is hard work as you have to do the administrative duties besides teaching. However, you should be proud of yourself because you can cope with all activities. That's why you were chosen one of the Yellow Group members to join the Webskills Online Course 2014. May be the other colleagues have similar situations like you! Me too, next week we are back to school. Two English Camps are about to start soon, one is for students and another is for teachers around my areas. Also one conference for 203 English teachers from lower Isan part of Thailand is on 14-16 May while classes will start on 18 May 2014! Fortunately we can manage our time dealing with our work on the weekends! Wadha, let's think about what was said by Martin Luther King,"Whatever your life's work is, do it well. A man should do his job so well that the living, the dead, and the unborn could do it no better. Do you like this quote?
